Legislative Update – March 14, 2025

NINTH WEEK OF THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION

As the legislative session moves past the first funnel, the pace slows significantly. Most of the work shifts to floor debate as lawmakers focus on moving bills that have passed through committees.

With over 1,600 bills introduced so far, the legislature is on track to break a record for the number of bills submitted in a single session. The next legislative funnel on April 4, as bills must pass through one chamber and be approved by a committee in the opposite chamber to stay alive.

Work now begins on the budget as targets are being created with an eye toward adjournment on May 2nd.

LEGISLATIVE ISSUES

Our priority issues are in the mix and poised to be debated soon. With more than 1,600 bills introduced this session, there’s a substantial backlog of legislation to work through. While it’s a busy time at the Capitol, we’re encouraged that our key priorities are still in play and getting attention as lawmakers focus on moving bills forward.

We encourage everyone to continue reaching out to your legislators, urging them to push leadership to bring our bills to the floor for debate. Your voice makes a difference in ensuring our priorities stay on track and continue to move through the legislative process.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD

We urge all our members to take an active role in the legislative process by attending town forums or reaching out to your legislators through email, phone, or text. It’s crucial that they hear directly from you about the importance of pushing our favorable bills forward. Bills like defining party hunting (Senate), securing a constitutional right to hunt and fish (House and Senate), eliminating the celebrity deer tag (Senate), and increasing acre size for landowner tenant tags (which has been amended to grandfather in current LOT tag recipients and require land sold after the January 2027 antlerless season to be at least 20 acres to qualify for tags – House and Senate) need your support to advance through the process.

Your voice truly makes a difference. Be sure to ask your legislators to talk to leadership about getting these important bills passed and sent to the other chamber for further consideration. If you do hear back from your legislators on these issues, please let me know. Thank you for your continued advocacy and for helping to ensure that our priorities move forward at the Statehouse!
